Barclay, Robert Apology for the true Christian divinity London  1736

Barclay, Robert. An apology for the true Christian divinity, as the same is held forth, and preached, by the people called, in scorn, Quakers: being a full vindication of their principles and doctrines, by many arguments, deduced from Scripture and right reason, and the testimonies of famous authors, both ancient and modern: with a full answer to the strongest objections usually made against them. Present to the King. Written in Latin and English by Robert Barclay, and since translated into High Dutch, Low Dutch, French and Spanish, for the information of strangers. London: printed and sold by T. Sowle Raylton and Luke Hinde, 1736. (14), 574, (18) pp. 8vo, contemporary calf (rubbed, top of spine a bit worn). "The sixth edition in English." A classic Quaker text, first published in Latin, in Amsterdam, in 1676, and two years later in English, in Aberdeen. Wanting a flyleaf at the front, otherwise a good copy. CBEL II, 1648.
