Ariosto, Lodovico Delle satire e rime London  1716

Ariosto, Lodovico. Delle satire e rime di M. Ludovico Aristo libri due. London: per Giovanni Pickard, 1716. (12), 211(1) pp. + an engraved frontispiece portrait. 8vo, contemporary calf (spine a bit worn, lacks label). First edition as edited, with copious notes, by Paolo Antonio Rolli. Rolli was a conspicuous figure in early 18th-century London; he was a tutor of the Prince of Wales, wrote libretti for Handel and other composers, translated Milton and Shakespeare, and generally did much to introduce Italian literature to an English audience. With a dedication, in Italian, to John Dalrymple, second Earl of Stair. Early armorial bookplate, signed in 1769 by Wriothesly Digby. A very good copy. Uncommon; the ESTC (on-line, 10/03) lists twelve locations (L, C, E, O, Oc, Osj, Ota; CaOTU, CLU-C, KU-S, PU; Toulouse).
