Barker, Mary Anne Spring comedies London  1871

Barker, Lady Mary Anne (later Lady Broome). Spring comedies. London and New York: Macmillan & Co., 1871. viii, (2)340 pp. 8vo, original brown cloth. First edition. Four novellas, on romantic themes, by a woman best known for her accounts of colonial life in New Zealand, where her first husband was a sheep farmer, and later in Australia, Natal, etc., where she accompanied her second husband, who was in the foreign service. Lady Barker also published a fair number of children's books, and several works on household management and cookery; this appears to be her only fiction for adults. A nice copy. The NUC lists four locations (DLC, CtY, MB, MF). Not in Wolff; CBEL (3) IV, 1745 (wrongly listed as a children's book).
