Banister, John. A synopsis of husbandry. Being cursory observations in the several branches of rural oeconomy. Adduced from a long and practical experience in a farm of considerable extent. London: printed for G. G. and J. Robinson, 1799. xvi, 471 pp. + a folding table. 8vo, original light blue boards, drab paper backstrip, printed paper label (some wear to spine, joints tender). First edition. The only book by a gentleman farmer from Horton Kirby, in Kent. Included in this substantial treatise are chapters on various crops, on manure and fertilizers, on the raising of livestock, etc.; Banister confined his remarks to subjects with which he was personally familiar. "Banister was a thinker, and made a few cautious steps towards modern theories of plant nutrition." -- Fussell.
