Map, Copper engraving, 43.5 x 56 cms, black and white as issued, blank verso. Sea chart of the British Isles first printed in the Atlantis Majoris of 1650, with north at the right of the map. This is the second state with the names of the seas added, probably from the Latin edition edition of 1659. Two figures (ancient Britons according to Shirley) support the Royal coat of arms, despite the fact that Britain was a republic when this map was engraved and our example was printed.
