Book, 4to. First edition. pp. [ii], 507, [i] + 16 engraved plates, mostly portraits but also including views of Whitminster House and Twickenham Meadows (the latter double-page) and Dr Johnson’s ghost, appearing in order to remonstrate with Boswell. Spotting to title, but generally clean. Contemporary calf, rebacked retaining original spine, inner hinge cracked but firm.

Richard Owen Cambridge (1717-1802) is perhaps best known as the author of the mock heroic poem The Scribleriad, originally published in 1751. Whitminster in Gloucester was his country seat, where lived before moving to Twickenham.
