Homann, Johann Baptist: Amplissimae Regionis Mississipi [...] Nuremberg 1730
Map, Copper-engraving, 49.5 x 59.5 cms, original hand-colour with black and white cartouche (title suspended on a buffalo skin above a vignette of the Niagara falls with a dozen beavers in the foreground) and vignette showing indians with a buffalo. Printer’s crease bottom left, closed tear (7cms) at the foot of the map to the left of the centre-fold, pair of wormholes on either side of the centrefold in the Gulf of Mexico, despite these minor defects this is a notably strong, crisp impression of this map with good original colour.
