Dopplemayr, Johann Gabriel: Systema Mundi Tychonum Nuremberg, J.B Homann, 1714
Map, 49.5 x 58.5 cms. Fine, bright original colour. A superb example.
Doppelmayr’s Celestial Atlas was printed by the Homann Heirs in 1742, but this is a much earlier example of one of J.B. Homann’s plates included in one of his first atlases. It shows the solar system, with the orbit of the planets according to the seasons and signs of the zodiac as described by Tycho Brahe and Riccioli, with tables showing the relative sizes of the planets according to the two astronomers who are themselves depicted, seated in the upper border.
