Cobden-Sanderson, T.J. . Credo. Pleni Sunt Coeli et Terra Gloria Tua. Hammersmith, Doves Press, 1908.
16,5 : 12 cm. 5 blank leaves, 4 leaves, 5 blank leaves. Reddish-brown morocco, title in gilt on front cover and spine, gilt turnins, top edge gilt (signed: The Doves Bindery).
Wonderful print by the Doves-Press in a signed binding. One of the rare copies where the colophon on this copy of Cobden-Sanderson's famous Credo is dated MDCCCCVIII (1908) instead of 1909, in the final version. Cobden-Sanders passionate Credo was offered to subscribers in an edition of only 250 copies in April 1909. It is dated 1909 in all relevant bibliographies. The explination for the earlier date of this copy can, nevertheless, be found in the publicity notice that Cobden-Sanders sent to subscribers in January 1909. There he admits that "The Credo substantialy in its present form, has already been printed for private circulation, and a few copies have been presented to friends of the writer". - See Clark Library,Klemscott and Doves, S. 102-103; Ransom, Private Presses, S. 252, no. 25; Tomkinson S. 56, no. 25.
