1994 The notion that the British Numismatic Society should have a Special Publications Series, mooted on occasion in the past, has now become a reality thanks to a generous bequest from the late Roy Osborne. The purpose of the Series is to encourage publication of material, falling within the broad remit of the Society, which may on the one hand be too long for the Journal or, on the other, may not be publishable according to normal commercial criteria. In this way it is hoped that the Series will be of particular benefit to authors experiencing difficulty in publishing the results of their research and will also directly reflect the wishes of the benefactors.
