8vo (25 x 18 cm). Title-page, vi pp. and 64 stipple engraved handcoloured costume plates each with a page of descriptive text. Modern half green morocco gilt, marbled boards, original printed label pasted down on front cover, raised bands; an excellent copy.
Based upon Miller's Costume of the Russian Empire (itself based upon Georgi's 1776-1780 work). The first 12 plates depict people of Finnish origin and plates 13 to 35 describe the Tartars. Plate 36 to 50 cover people from Siberia and the East while the rest depict the Mongols and other small tribes from all over the Empire.
