This scarce version into Welsh of Richard Allestree's bestselling "The whole duty of man" (London, 1657) was made by the clergyman and translator Edward Samuel (1674-1748). This translation appears to have been produced independently from that made by Langford and first published in London in 1672. A product of the press of John Rhydderch in Shrewsbury, it includes a 7 page list of subscribers. At the end of the work is printed an advertisement for Edward Wicksteed, bookseller in Wrexham, who in addition to "all sorts of books in all faculties", advertises "wall paper for hanging rooms, marble and German gilt paper, stamp paper and parchment ... Japan ink, ink horns ... pen knives ... reading glasses ... best snuff ... at reasonable rates".
