First and only edition of this exposition of a new surveying device invented by the author and its application to ballistics, cartography, and celestial observations (for a detailed description cf. Boffito, Gli strumenti della scienza, p. 91). Lupicini was a prominent Florentine engineer, military architect and astronomer who worked extensively not only in Tuscany, but also in the lagoon of Venice, in Vienna (where he improved the fortifications against the Turks), and other places; he wrote a number of valuable treatises.
