First edition of an esteemed work, the first important treatise on the theory of music issued in Scotland. Malcolm emigrated from Edinburgh to New York in 1734 (he died in Baltimore, MD), where he taught mathematics and related subjects, but it was the above work which made his reputation. Fétis V, 415.
