This is the first edition to contain the substantial annotations by Johannes Hartmann (1568-1631), a friend of Crollius who held the first established chair of Chemistry in Europe, at Marburg. «The Basilica chymica became the standard scientific work on iatrochemistry » (DSB III, 471). Duveen 151. Ferguson I, 187. Wellcome I, 1675. Cf. Caillet I, 404, and Verginelli-Rota, Bibl. Hermetica, 79-80: «... opera meritamente molto famosa nella storia dell'Alchimia...».
