Second edition (first: Rome 1596) of «one of the major works by the distinguished Renaissance physician and scientist. It is one of the most important works on mineralogy of the period, containing also original views on geology and chemistry. According to Geikie, the book may still be usefully consulted for information on the stones and ores of Italy. Cesalpino was one of the first who gave the true explanation of the origin of fossils.
