(245 x 160 mm), printer's device on title; in a GERMAN CONTEMPORARY BINDING OF CREAM PIGSKIN tooled to a panel design with a twin crested roll along the border, and a second roll with medallion portraits of Cicero, Virgil, and Ovid, and a third with the four Evangelists; centre panel on upper cover with portrait of Rudolf II signed CL with the legends VERBUM DOMINI MANET IN AETERNUM and RUDOLPHUS. II D.G. ROM. IMP. SEMPER. AV. AN. DO. M.D.LXXXX (Haebler I 258); above the panel the original owner's initials H G B and below it the date 1597; centre panel on lower cover with a large arabesque also signed CL containing the crowned Imperial Double Eagle; spine with four double bands, edges sprinkled red.
A German renaissance binding with a rare signed and dated portrait panel of the Emperor Rudolf II (1552-1612).With the original owner's inscription on title "ad usum Henrici Guyer Brunnfrutani... Ao. Salutis 1597." Later ownership inscription "Collegii Soc. Jesu Bruntz. [Brunzelwaldau, near Dresden?], 1650."
