ANNENSKII, Innokentii Fedorovich. Tsar' Iksion. Tragediia v piati deistviiakh s musykal'nymi antraktami [King Ixion. A tragedy in five acts with musical interludes]. St Petersburg, M. P. Frolova, 1902.

Tall 8vo, pp. vii, [8]-90; a few marks to title, leaves toned; uncut in the original printed wrappers, a little browned.

First edition. The reputation of Annensky (1856-1909) rests on his lyric verse, but he wrote a number of original tragedies in the style of Euripides (whom he also translated) based on Greek subjects. Tsar' Iksion is the story of the king who coveted Hera, sired the centaurs, and was then racked on a wheel in Hades. Would-be producers are fortunately spared some of the potentially more difficult elements of the tale.

Not in Kilgour. OCLC locates 4 copies, all in California (Stanford, and UC Berkeley, Irvine, and Riverside).
