2 works bound in 1 vol., small 4to, pp. [2], 112, with woodcut arms on title-page and some charming woodcut tail-pieces; pp. 160, [2], with woodcut arms on title-page; title-page of first work a little dust-soiled and with small paper flaw to top margin, but otherwise crisp and clean copies bound in contemporary gilt Italian Brokatpapier wrappers on a green background, spine faded and a little bit worn, but cords strong.
Guidebooks to the painting and frescoes of the d'Este of Modena, in their town palazzo and in the country residence in Sassuolo.1. First edition of a revised guide to the pictures and frescoes in the ducal apartments in Modena, with an index of the painters at end. The guide appeared originally as a chapter in Pagani's guidebook to Modena in 1770. But after extensive re-hanging and new purchases a new updated guide was necessary. - Schlosser-Magnino, p. 578.
2. First edition of this extensive and detailed guide to the frescoes by Agostino Mitelli, Giovanni Boulanger and Michel Angelo Colonna at the ducal palace of Sassuolo in Modena.
