Description : Folio. Two parts in one. 63 engraved maps.original vellum binding.Old annotations in some margins.Internally a very fine copy of this atlas.The contents are divided in old ptolemaic maps and "new maps". This is the Second Magini edition with the engraved maps by Girolamo Porro.The world map in Mercator projection.Magini was well known for his publication of the atlas of Italy with fine printed maps in folio size.
Ptolemy,geographer(II c a.d) wrote his Geographia giving data of 8000 places. Through manuscripts,his work arrived to medieval age and from Bizantium some scholars introduced the work in Italy where 1 ed was published in 1475, and in 1477 first printed one with 26 maps.Magini(1555-1617) from Padova, his maps were based on Gastaldi and the maps of his Geographia first published in 1596 were engraved by Girolamo Porro.
