Davis, Richard Harding. Cuba In War Time. Illustrated by Frederick Remington. New York Russell 1897
First Edition, in the very rare dust jacket which is not noted in BAL, nor is it noted in Dykes bibliographical checklist of Remington's works. Although there is mention of an issue in wrappers, BAL states that no such copy has ever been seen and that based on publisher's advertisements etc. indicate that it was only issued in boards. However, one wonders if the fictional wrapper edition wasn't a corruption of the wrapper over the actual book as the jacket reproduces the front cover exactly. Illustrated with a frontispiece and 23 plates, four from photos taken by Davis and 19 from original drawings by Remington from personal observation while he was in Cuba. Tan paper-covered boards, printed in black and red, top edge gilt, a near mint copy with only two pin dots of wear on the lower spine, in a near fine dust jacket which repeats the cover color and design and additionally has a list of other Russell publications on the back cover. The jacket has a 1/2" triangular chip from the lower back corner at the spine and another at the lower front, there is some slight chipping at the tips, but generally this is a fine fresh copy, housed in custom-made clamshell box. This is a rare book in good condition, in jacket and fine, it is quite rare. BAL 4524. Dykes #504.
