Paris, N. de la Barre, 1518 Small folio: fine woodcut four-piece title frame, La Barre's large device (Renouard 530) beneath printed title and a small version incorporated in the central shield of lower strip of frame (Renouard 533). Numerous woodcut initials. 18th century calf, spine gilt with morocco labels: repair to corner of title-page, three 16th century ownership inscriptions on title-page, that in the upper margin partly shaved, some 16th century marginal annotations. A reprint of Ascenius' editions of 1508 and 1510. Whether it is pure coincidence that the title-frame is a close copy of Ascenius' is doubtful. The first editions had been published in Crinitio's native Florence in 1504 and 1505. It is strange that his works did not appear again in Italy while many editions such as this one came from presses in Paris and Lyon.
