HEGENDORPH Christoph Encomium Sobrietatis.
n.p., n.p., n.d. (Leipzig, V. Schuman, 1520) Small 4to; modern binding of boards covered with a leaf from an early printed work. First edition of an amusing satire praising sobriety. The author was a learned editor and translator, this lighthearted piece contains many quotations from classical authors. The woodcut title frame incorporates Schuman's mark and is particularly attractive. A companion work praising drunkenness was published about the same time; they are separate works and both are scarce.
