Venice, Tomasini, 1647. 4to with device on title-page, two folding woodcut plates and over 250 woodcut illustrations. 18th century patterned boards: flaw in surface of one illustration. A very full edition of Cartari's famous encyclopaedic work on the representation of the ancient gods. It is Pignoria's version with his additions and notes and the illustrations are based on Ferroverde's woodcuts in the Paduan editions. It contains the appendix on the 'Imagini de gli Dei Indiani'. This fully illustrated section describes the gods of Japan, Egypt and Mexico: Pignoria cites all his sources for the gods illustrated, statuettes belonging to Peiresc, drawings made by Jesuit missionaries, etc.
