Avignon, Bérenguier & Paris, Courcier, 1809 8vo: two folding tables. Original boards, sheep spine with titling-label and at bottom of spine the name Gardés Fredéric: an engraved computing card and a smaller metal version, both intended to be used in combination with the tables. Hinges a little rubbed; a small portion of the title-page a little abraded by the edge of the metal régulateur, otherwise a fine copy. Probably the second edition, the first having appeared in Toulon in 1807. There are, however, two editions dated 1809; this one with 488 pages and another with the imprint Bordeaux and 533 pages. Martin played a useful role in the promulgation of the new metric system, as is attested by Prony's report to the Institut de France. The Régulateur, a device for using conversion tables without mental calculation, is here present in both metal and card form.
