(AGUILERA Emanuele) Ragguaglio dell'academia degli Argonauti nuovamente istituita nel Regio Imperial Collegio de' Nobili della Compagnia di Gesų in Palermo..
Palermo, Stefano Amato, 1732 Small folio in 4s: 19 engraved devices, each printed on one side onlyof the leaf. Contemporary vellum, a small worm hole in upper cover. A rare description of the first ceremonies of a short-lived academy. The Jesuit Collegio de'Nobili had been founded in 1728 in response to the Teatine's newly opened institution; this Academia was founded three years later with eighteen members. Its declared priorities were the cultivation of Latin and the Arts of Chivalry. To show off their skills in these fields nine little aristocrats spent the first day displaying their classical learning and the second day was devoted to the other nine performing exhibition fights interspersed with dancing and singing. The entire ceremonies are described in detail including the different types of dance (la Marič, Vandachense, Siciliano, etc.) The engraved emblems start with that of the Argonauti; each of the other devices measures 119 x 89mm and includes pennants above giving the academic name of the young man whose name is below it.
