Marginal browning to first and last leaf. Generally a very good, clean copy., Avison (1709 - 1770) was a highly-regarded church organist from Newcastle. Though he composed some sixty orchestral and chamber works, he is known primarily for the present work, written with he assistance of John (ÒEstimateÓ) Brown, John Jortin, and others. It is one of the first works by a British writer to deal with the aesthetics of music, from the different standpoints of the composer, performer and listener.
