First edition of the first atlas of Venezuela, published in Caracas. One of the earliest national atlases of South America (predated in Phillips only by A. Gonzales’ Atlas maritimo del reyno de el Perù, Chile... 1797), Codazzi’s Atlas Fisico y Politico is scarce on the market. Thirty full-color lithographed political and physical maps on 18 sheets depict the water basins, cultivated land, provinces and cantons of Venezuela, and include political maps of Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia and Colombia.
