Rare first edition of this illustrated tragedy, Giovanni Battista Andreini’s first work for the stage and his only tragedy. “The most important Italian dramatist of the 17th century” (Rebaudengo, p. 7), Andreini’s works are considered especially important as a link between the Commedia dell’arte tradition and the nascent genre of opera.
