First edition of this landmark work in the history of museology, the description of a remarkable collection of books, manuscripts, maps and calendars, Native American as well as European, formed by the historian Boturini Benaduci for the purpose of writing a history of Mexico based entirely on original documents. The Catalogo del Museo Historico Indiano, which forms the second part of this work, is of inestimable importance for its record of Aztec artifacts (including many maps and manuscripts) which were available to the author in the 18th century and which, for the most part, have not survived to this day.
