ALEGRIA, Ciro Los perros hambrientos. Santiago: Zig-Zag, 1939
Octavo, 170pp. First edition of Alegria's second novel, The Hungry Dogs, composed while Alegria was in a sanatorium recovering from tuberculosis. Winner of an Editorial Zig-Zag Prize in 1938. Text quite darkened, with some localized evidence of compromise, but about very good in publisher's illustrated wraps. This copy inscribed by Alegria to Alberto Rembao, publisher of the New York Spanish-language periodical Nueva Democracia. Rare.
