Editio Princeps of the comedies of Aristophanes. One of the greatest of the 15th century editions of the Greek classics, it is a monument of early Greek printing and of Renaissance Greek scholarship. It was edited with the scholia by Marcus Musurus (ca. 1470-1517), the eminent humanist and pupil of Janus Lascaris, who also wrote the important preface in which he postulates the necessity of Greek studies and examines the style of Aristophanes. The following plays are printed here for the first time: Plutus, Nebulae, Ranae, Equites, Acharnes, Vespae, Aves, Pax, and Contionantes.
