BEDELET, Leonie C Le Monde en Estampes: Types et Costumes des principaux Peuples de l'univers... Paris, Bedelet, circa 1858
Oblong quarto, with 24 coloured lithographs with explanatory text; original quarter morocco gilt-decorated, all edges gilt, some staining to upper board and wear to extremities, else a good copy.
Very scarce; this handsome work on world costumes, derived from voyage accounts and intended mainly for children, contains a splendid series of coloured lithographs by J. Boquin, after drawings by Leloir and Fossey. They depict the native costume of various peoples of the world, including Europe, Asia, Africa, North and South America (including a rendering of American Indians negotiating with a fur trader, while a buffalo hunt proceeds in the background), and the Pacific Islands, including Australia (with a depiction of Aborigines 'pillant des débris de naufrage').
Not in Ferguson.
