Transported to Botany Bay on the convict ship Minerva in 1799. Holt was part of the United Irishmen group who formed in late 1791 in order to end social, political, economic and religious discrimination against Catholics and Presbyterians, and to prevent the British parliament from interfering in Irish affairs. This portrait commemorates Holt as the Leader of the Irish Rebels of the Wicklow rebellion of 1798.
