CANIVELL, Francisco Tratado de vendages y apositos para uso de los Reales Colegios de Cirugia . . . 6th edition Madrid J. Doblado 1809
4to. (4) ff., 146 pp. With 11 folding plates. Near contemporary vellum. Some slight spotting & browning, otherwise a good copy.
An important and detailed work, held in high regard by contemporary physicians, and which includes folding plates showing detailed examples of methods of bandaging. Canivell was professor of the Royal College of Surgery of Barcelona, deputy director of the Medical College of Cadiz in 1769 and chief surgeon of the Spanish Navy. Writing in 1850, Hernández Morejón states that his book was still in use, and that the author had been instrumental in the government's establishing a fund for widows and orphans of surgeons of the Spanish Royal Navy. This edition includes an extra folding plate showing the method of applying splints for fractures of the leg. Palau 42286 (note).
