The author was sent by the Spanish government to attend and report on the London International Exhibition of 1862 which, dedicated mainly to industry and technology, attracted over 6 million visitors. He was an excellent and acute observer of the times and customs of his day, and contributed to the most prestigious Spanish periodicals of the mid-nineteenth century. Castro y Serrano is best known for his Cartas trascendentales. Lacks half title (?). Printed on poor quality paper, pp. 49 & 158 badly printed but legible. (Cf. Palau 49038 (Madrid 1863 edition).)
