The work is a translation of Exposición de los hechos y maquinaciones que han preparado la usurpación de la Corona de España y los medios que el Emperador de los franceses ha puesto en obra para realizarla. Cevallos was Charles IV of Spain's First Minister and, when Napoleon’s troops invaded Spain, accompanied him to Bayonne, and later became First Minister to Ferdinand VII. Although related to Godoy by marriage, Cevallos was anti-French and always opposed the alliance favoured by Godoy, encouraging the troops to revolt against the imperials. He at first accepted Joseph Bonaparte's proposal to enter his service as Councillor of State but on arrival in Madrid changed his mind and supported the patriots. This pamphlet, describing the negotiations at Bayonne, was the rallying cry to Spaniards to revolt against the French. Pp. 41 – 80 contain documents referring to the Spanish invasion. According to Innocêncio the work was translated by Fr. Manuel de São Joaquim Maia, and four issues were printed in the same year. Palau 54265, “este opúsculo fué muy leido en su tiempo e circuló por todo el mundo.” Innocêncio VI, 18 & XVI, 307.
