Only edition of this oration on the election of Francesco Donato as eightieth doge of Venice by Cornelio Frangipane (1508-1588), a lawyer and poet from Tarcento. Donato was a remarkable doge. He built the Doge's Palace and the Customs House and assembled a remarkable library. During his eight years reign he opposed the Turks with great energy and skilfully maintained Venice's neutrality during the wars of Charles V against Henri II.
