CHIARAVACCI, Girolamo. Fastorum libri XII Milan, apud Franciscum & Simonem Moschenios fratres, 1554

8vo . 132ff. Woodcut device on title-page, occasional light spotting, in eighteenth century Italian vellum, red morocco label on spine.

First and only edition of the author's only book, dedicated by Giovanni Giacomo Gabiano (author of the poem Romanengensium) to Paul III and by Homobono Chiaravacci to Alessandro Farnese, the pope's nephew. This long Latin poem is an extraordinary mixture of the sacred and profane with biographies of Christian martyrs side by side with Greek myths, astrology, ancient and modern Italian history and various moral precepts. Little is known of the author save that he was a poet, born at Pizzighettone in c.1490 and died before 1549.
