BERNO, Abbot of Reichenau. Libellus de officio missae, quem edidit Rhomae , (Strassburg, in aedibus Schurerianis, 1511)

4to. 22ff. Very lightly browned, in modern half calf.

Second edition - the first was printed at Paris in the previous year - of this little work on the mass in which the author (died 1045) informs us that he was present at the coronation of the emperor Henry II. Berno, a German Benedictine, was a monk at the Abbey of Saint Gall in Switzerland where he taught music and ecclesiastical history before, in 1014, being elected abbot of the Abbey of Reichenau on Lake Zell, near to Lake Constance. Among other works he has left us three on music. This one continued to be printed until the end of the seventeenth century.
