FIRST EDITION of this fulsome obituary, in prose and verse, of one of the greatest Italian poets of the sixteenth century. It is curious that it should be delivered by a Florentine whose city had never welcomed Tasso during his lifetime and whose Accademia della Crusca had, ten years earlier, declared a vicious war against his Gerusalemme liberata. Early seventeenth century signature on an endpaper of Cav. Giovanni Innocenzo Alamanni.
