DIODORUS Siculus. Delle antique historie fabulose nouamente fatto volgare, Venice, per Gabriel Iolito de Ferrarii, 1542

8vo. 120ff. Title within a woodcut border incorporating Giolito's device at foot, wormhole at foot of same leaf with very slight loss of border, occasional minor spotting, in eighteenth century Italian vellum.

First Giolitine edition and a word for word reprint of the Giuntine edition of 1526 with the same number of leaves. It consists of the only five books known at that time and is in the anonymous Italian translation from Poggio's Latin version. Further Giolitine editions appeared in 1547, 1566, 1574 and 1575, the last two containing many more recently discovered books and translated by Francesco Baldelli. This edition seems to be quite scarce.
