Title within a fine white-on-black woodcut border depicting curious human figures and musical instruments, device on last page, wormhole in inner margins of first 4 leaves just touches border on title-page, occasional light waterstaining, in contemporary vellum with yapped edges, lacks ties.

A rare pocket edition of this classical work on medicine and pharmacy by Pedacius Dioscorides (fl. first century BC or first century AD). Of particular interest is book five which deals mostly with wine, a beverage Dioscorides greatly approves of, both for the cure of and the recuperation from many diseases. Ascarelli-Menato say of Cinzio Achillini ‘di illustre famiglia bolognese. Le sue edizioni sono belle e spesso riccamente ornate’.
