Folio. 208ff. (including the final errata leaf). Scotto’s woodcut device on title-page, Aldine device on last page, initialised running title or Bembo’s initials in a fine near-contemporary hand, repaired tear in I3 with no loss, in early twentieth century dark calf, a few repairs.

FIRST EDITION of Bembo’s magisterial history of his native Venice from 1487 to 1513, based partly on his own experiences and partly on the informative diaries kept by Marin Sanudo (1466-1535), the Venetian historian and member of Aldo Manuzio’s academy.Censimento CNCE 5037; Adams B597; Renouard 152/17 ‘Belle édition, la première de ce livre, et peu commune, au moins en France’.
