Only edition of this oration to the citizens of Brescia in which the author deals with the vexed question of how much wealth Christians may possess without it affecting their chances of getting to heaven. Chiari (1495-1555) was an erudite Benedictine abbot and Bishop of Foligno. A theologian and philosopher, he also took part in the Council of Trent. Chiari (or Clarius) is his humanist name taken from his birthplace of Chiari near Brescia. The recto of the last leaf contains two poems in elegiac verses by Gerardo Dicaeo and one by Ottaviano Arcimboldi, the brother of the painter.
