Locke’s contributions to economic thought consisted of two major essays and a minor pamphlet and they are all present in this contemporary collection edition.It includes firstly Some Considerations of the consequences of the Lowering of Interest and Raising the Value of Money which was John Locke’s first book on economics and his most important contribution to mercantile and monetary theory. The second work is Short Observations on a Printed Paper, Intituled, For Encouraging the Coining of Silver Money in England, and after for keeping it here of 1695 and signalled Locke’s determination to play a leading part in the campaign to maintain the value of the silver coinage. The third work is Further considerations concerning Raising the Value of Money of 1695 and here Locke defends his earlier views on coinage following the publication of Lowndes’s contrary opinions. Provenance: From the collection of Martin Bowes 1670-1726. Attended St John’s College, Cambridge but left without taking a degree. He made the Grand Tour, and later became a London barrister and fellow of the Royal Society.
