32mo - over 4" - 5" tall Autograph On offer a group of three (3) early pocket diaries, all from one man. Collectors and researchers of railroads and railroading will find these of particular interest. Written in period ink on the flap of one of the diaries is "C.P. PHILBRICK, WYMORE, NEB." Each diary is filled out in period pencil and each diary has an entry for every day of the year. The diaries are dated 1891, 1894 and 1899. Entries provide details from the weather and to which train Mr. Philbrick took for that trip. It appears that Mr. Philbrick was a Railroad Engineer as the train number is given in his entries as well as it's destination. Some of the many destinations include: WYMORE, TABLE ROCK, LINCOLN, TECUMSEH, ST. JOE, RED CLOUD, HUMBOLDT, RULO, ATCHISON, HIAWATHA, OMAHA, DENVER, ETC. There are quite a few entries giving details of his many excursions. Here are some snippets: MAY 13, 1891, LINCOLN ON 92 (train number), PRESIDENT HARRISON FROM CRETE JUST AHEAD OF US, HIS TRAIN (gives the names of the cars) - COAL SHED AND 4 CARS BURNED - 76, LAWRENCE AND FINLEY STRIKES A BUGGY AT 1ST CROSSING EAST OF VIOLET KILLING A MAN AND WOMAN AND INJURING BABY - NO. 109 DITCHES 3 CARS NEAR PRESTON - 8 HOURS LATE, WASH-OUT NEAR RAVENNA - 23 WRECKED AT WALDRON IN WASH-OUT - AT TABLE ROCK, 8 CARS BURNED - AUG. 30, 1899, SOLDIERS HOME FROM PHILLIPINES - TO SUPERIOR WITH THREE CREWS AFTER RINGLING BROS. SHOW - OCT. 22, 1899, SOLDIERS GOING TO PHILLIPINES - BIG WRECK TO NO. 8 AT TRESTLE BETWEEN SALTILLO AND LANCASTER - FATHER DIED AT 8:20 AM - TO ATCHISON ON 16 AND 22 WITH FATHER'S REMAINS - SERVICES AT WYMORE BY M. BAXTER, K.P. BROUGHT HEARSE TO DEPOT, PARTY OF KNIGHTS AND MASTER MASONS FROM TECUMSEH - ETC. Many hundreds of entries with railroading info in the western USA. Overall condition of the (3) diaries is very good. All are clean. There is light wear to the covers. The covers are all well attached and the bindings are tight. The writing is fairly easy to read.
