Quesnay (1694 - 1774) is primarily recognised for his physiocratic teachings in the area of economics. Doctor by profession, he was personal physician to Pompadour and also treated Ludwig XV. As "chirurgien par vocation" (Sutter) he took sides during the conflict between the two fractions (although not recognised scientifically at first) "chirurgiens" and the "médecins". As pupil of Boerhaaves, who vehemently supported Harvey's theory of blood circulation, Quesnay recognised in this fundamental discovery the pattern that would mark his own economic ideas and would earn him and his disciples the term "Physiocrates". These early medical writings are therefore important foundations for Quesnay's later ideas. J. Sutter (in: INED [Hg.]: François Quesnay et la Physiocratie. Paris 1958. " 2 lvs. with large brown stain, otherwise in places slightly briwn- or damp-stained. I: INED (Quesnay) S. 302 (Coll. wrong), Cioranescu 51740 (the same incorrect collation); Blake 368; Hirsch-H.
