BEAUMARCHAIS, (Pierre-Augustin Caron) de. La Folle Journée ou Le Mariage de Figaro... Paris, Au Palais-Royal, Chez Ruault, 1785.
8vo. (2) lvs., LVI, 237 pp., (1) p. (blank) + 5 lvs. With 5 engraved plates (not included in the pagination) by Malapeau and "Roi" after St. Quentin. 19th century red marocco (slightly rubbed, upper part of spine new, front joint partly restored) with monogram. Tchémerzine II, S. 20/21; Cohen / R. 124/5. First edition, 2nd issue; copy on thick paper (marked with * at the beginning of each gathering [cf. Cohen / R.]). Tchémerzine about the issues of the first edition: "L'Original parut sans figures. On y ajouta presque aussitôt cinq planches...Il se trouve donc des exemplaires avec, et d'autres sans les figures." This 2nd issue (that one with the plates) is recognizable too by the date of the printing licence (p. 237: "Achevé d'imprimer pour la seconde fois, le 28 Avril 1785") and by the undated approbation on the same page. Mostly uncut, with wide margins. The first two leaves and the plates with damp-stains, the outest margins browned, a few leaves slightly browned too, otherwise a clean copy in a masterpiece of bookbinding.
