Contemporary three-quarters calf, worn; marginal waterstain last few leaves., First edition of an important and attractive work on British herpetology. Bell (1792-1880), a dental surgeon and a zoologist, lectured on comparative anatomy at Guys Hospital, and later was made professor of zoology at Kings College London. One of the founders of the Ray and Zoological Society, Secretary to the Royal Society and president of the Linnean Society, Bell's writings were extremely popular.
